Importance of Meekness

Importance of Meekness

Text:

1 Peter 3:1-12 NKJV

Memory Verse:

Matthew 5:5 KJV

Meekness is a fruit of the Spirit that seems very much lost in our aggressive, self-centred culture. Because people associate it with weakness, most do not admire others for being meek, yet it is what we are called to be as believers. It is an attitude of humility toward God and gentleness toward people when we recognise that God is in control and that we can trust Him, even when things don’t go the way we would like; which more often than not is the case. To be meek, one needs confidence, not in oneself but in the Lord.

Although, weakness and meekness may look similar but they are NOT the same. Weakness is due to negative circumstances, such as lack of strength or lack of courage. This does not describe Jesus, who said, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart (Matt 11:29). Meekness, rather, is the persons conscious choice to trust in God and lean on Him, as opposed to pushing for ones own ways.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MEEKNESS

1. ‎It is necessary for receiving Gods Word – James 1:21(GNT)

2. ‎It is necessary for effective witnessing – 1 Peter 3:1-2

3. ‎It is of great price to God – 1 Peter 3:4 (MSG)

4. ‎It gives access to grace – James 4:6

5. ‎It makes God your defence – Num 12:1-10

6. ‎It has great rewards – Prov 22:4, Matt 5:5, Prov 18:12
