Meekness Towards People

Meekness Towards People

Text:

1 Peter 2:13-25

Memory Verse:

Philippians 2:3

ntroduction

Meekness toward God is the foundation of a believer’s growth in meekness. As it is with love, so it is with meekness: if we are truly meek toward God, this will lead us to being meek and humble toward people around us.

Meekness and humility require us to be submissive to biblical principles: civil rules and rulers, being ordely in public, wives submitting to their own husbands, submitting to one another in the body of Christ and so much more. It is in the perfection of meekness toward God that a man can willingly submit to human authorities ordained by God.

Why is it that people refuse to submit to laws? Why cheat on taxes? Why disobey traffic laws? And so on. It is because we don’t want to do what the law says; we want to do what we want – self-will, unwilling to deny self. Any of these should not be traceable to a meek man; so anyone involved in any of these is certainly not walking in meekness and humility.

IN MEEKNESS TOWARD PEOPLE

1. We submit to human authority ordained by God – Titus 3:1-2(NKJV), 1 Pet 2:13-14;3:1-7

2. We honour others rather than exalting ourselves – Rom 12:3, 15-16(NKJV), Luke 14:7-11

3. We serve the needs and interests of others – Phil. 2:2-8, Matt 20:25-28

4. We help others overcome sin rather than condemn – Gal 6:1, 2Tim 2:24-26, Col 3:12-13

5. We work for peace, unity, and harmony – James 3:13-18, Rom 12:10, 14-21
