Memory Verse:
The lack of self-control is one of the biggest challenges facing believers in the world today.
1 John 2:15 (AMP) talks about what the world would always offer to believers For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things]–these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].
A believer lacking this spiritual fruit would constantly find himself falling for these worldly offers. Proverbs 25:28 describes a man or woman without self-control as defenceless as a city with broken-down walls. This city, as described in Proverbs, is exposed and opened to the enemys attack. This is akin to the life of Samson, a man blessed by God with great strength. He could bring down a city, but he couldn’t control his desires and emotions. This made him vulnerable and led to his downfall. The lack of this fruit is detrimental to the life and well-being of the believer. The consequence is long lasting, affecting the future both physically and spiritually.
