Introduction
It is a fact that the lack of self-control has led to the downfall of many, and on the other hand, possessing it has led many others to greatness. We see some of these examples in the scripture. Self-control was one of the defence tools that helped Christ fulfil his ministry on earth. This emphasizes its importance in the make-up of a believer. The believer who has gained mastery over his desires, passions, appetites, etc. is indeed blessed. He is not vulnerable to sin or the attack of the enemy because he has a wall of protection around him that prevents him from falling into temptation. He chooses to do the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God through the Spirits’ help. The Holy Spirit works and produces this fruit in him to give stability and strength in the midst of temptation. Our ability to exercise this fruit through the help of the Spirit in all areas of our lives is an indispensable key to living a godly life. As we yield ourselves to the Spirit in obedience, He produces this fruit in us, and it manifests in all areas of our lives, producing more of the entire fruit.
